Overview

The Area Vice President of Market Development is a dual-function leadership role responsible for developing high-performing sales leaders while providing interim strategic oversight of hospice sales operations across an assigned area. This leader drives referral growth, strengthens hospital and community partnerships, elevates sales execution, and ensures alignment with organizational strategy, culture, and performance standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver, and oversee training programs for Hospice Sales Directors, Clinical Liaisons, and Sales Representatives.
• Provide one-on-one coaching focused on strategic selling, account development, hospital penetration, and consultative sales methodology.
• Facilitate onboarding, ongoing competency development, and leadership readiness programs.
• Conduct field visits to assess skill gaps, strengthen execution, and model best-practice sales behaviors.
• Develop tools, content, and training materials that support performance improvement and organizational goals.
• Provide interim leadership to assigned hospice markets, driving referral growth and meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual census/revenue targets.
• Partner closely with Executive Directors, Regional VPs, Operations Leadership, and Clinical teams to ensure seamless execution of strategic initiatives.
• Oversee Area Sales Directors, ensuring accountability, territory optimization, pipeline strength, and referral source engagement.
• Analyze market dynamics, competitive activity, and performance trends to develop action plans for sustainable growth.
• Lead weekly sales calls, performance reviews, and strategic planning sessional with field leadership.
• Strengthen relationships with key hospital systems, physicians, post-acute partners, senior living communities, ACOs and other referral sources.

• Identify high-opportunity accounts and build targeted strategies to increase market share.
• Ensure teams are executing consistent value-based messaging aligned with hospice mission andpatient needs.
• Establishing clear performance expectations, KPIs and metrics for sales leaders and field teams.
• Evaluate individual and team performance through dashboards, CRM data, and referral trends.
• Implement corrective action plans when needed to improve outcomes and consistency.
• Partner with Operations and Clinical leadership to enhance customer satisfaction and strengthen community reputation.
• Work closely with Corporate Sales, Operations, Compliance, and Training teams to ensure alignment with organizational standards and goals.
• Support enterprise-level initiatives, system implementations, and process improvements.
• Serve as a resource for contract strategy, account expansion, and multi-site relationship development.
• Provide stability and continuity for territories and experiencing leadership transition.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for strategic decisions, escalations, and performance oversight.
• Prepare markets for successful handoff to permanent leadership through training, process alignment, and goal setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 5-7 years of healthcare sales leadership experience; hospice experience strongly preferred.

• Current and valid state driver’s license required.
• Proof of auto insurance required.
